squawk!

One of the strange and yet distrinctive features of living in Orange are the wild parrots. This morning they are in full effect and are as loud as can be. I think the rains earlier put a damper on their normal operations so they are making up for it now!

domestic bliss

So we did it. We started the home buying process. Very cool and very scary. It should all wrap up by the end of January. Fingers are still crossed.

procrastination

I really don't want to do my work right now!! In the next 48 hours I have to write a paper, finish a small assignment, make up journal entries, get Christmas gifts for work together, and put an offer in on our first house. Yeah, no big deal!

So instead, I'm changing up my blog! Good use of time....

journeys

Real Live Preacher roars again. Well not exactly roars...
I do feel like the journey calls us. I really was moved by this essay. Not the daughters bit, but the truths about the journey that call us. I feel called on a journey now. It is different than I thought it would be. I used to think that my journey needed me to actually travel. I have since discovered that much of my journey now is requiring me to hold still. This is something I'm not terrible good at, but I am working on.

To the journey!

Ah sisters! If my sister knew I posted this...she might just bust a gut. Or run and cry to mom like she used to in the old days. If this isn't sisterly love, what is?

check please.

So, I'd like my life back. I know I have no room to complain, but I'm tired of coming home every day after 7pm to no food at home, the pain of guilt of not going to the gym, and homework. I just can't complain, because I know it is only going to get worse in the next month. I can survive July. I can do this!!!

Hoorah for BloggerBot! Now it is super easy to post photos on the web! Wow! So here's my husband and I on our honeymoon in Vegas nearly 1 year ago. Awwwww...

color me...butterfly?

Ok, so thecolor/birthday thing from Pantone is totally a marketing thing I know, but who wouldn't want to be known as "inspiring, sexy and imaginative?" And in a lovely shade of green. How nice.

twitching

Ok, so life as of late has been a tad crazy. A bit pressing and stressful if you will. And I'm not even student teaching yet. Oh no. I don't really mind the hectic-ness of it all. I think this is so because I like all the things I'm doing. My body, however, is telling me a different story.
So last week it was my eye. My left eye had a fairly constant twitch in the lower lid. It drove me nuts. I tried everything short of vallium, but the only thing that helped was time. Over the weekend it just faded away. I guess I should be glad that a) it stopped and b) nothing burst in my face making me look like the elephant girl.
This week the ear ache that has been the background is comeing foward with a gentle sore throat. Super! Top it off with biting the inside of my mouth so now I have sores that won't heal! Yay!
So today I'm going to the clinic. I need to tell the doctor man that I need to chase away the demon. I know I'm putting myself through a lot, but if I can do all this and not emotionally fall apart, then i shouldn't fall apart physically either. So there!

Fetching tags are so fetching! This is just another in a long line of reasons why I need to be a dog owner.

the friday five

the friday five
What was...

1. ...your first grade teacher's name? Mrs. Pierce

2. ...your favorite Saturday morning cartoon? I had many...but I fondly remember watching 90 minutes of the Smurfs.

3. ...the name of your very first best friend? Michelle Feld

4. ...your favorite breakfast cereal? Lucky Charms...They're magically delicious!

5. ...your favorite thing to do after school? Climb trees!

cookie boycott?!?!?

Are you kidding me??? Morons in Texas are or I should say were boycotting Girl Scout cookies because of a partnership between Scouts and Planned Parenthood. Oh brother. What a cheap way for pro-lifers to get in the news!!! To use the Girl Scouts, an organization that helps girls become more confident and empowered, as a tool to protest abortion is absurd. You would think that they would want to support Scouts so that these bright young women grow up to make decisions about their body that reflects their beliefs and standards. I would hate for Pro-Life to get a bad rap from girls because they poo-pooed the cookies. Shame on you! Save babies by educating yourself!

Throw Rocks At Boys

Compliments of Tracy at Shiny Things and Dave Barry, I present: Throw Rocks At Boys. Have fun throwing rocks at dumb boys!!

where is the love?

Oh I know! It's at the P*lace. Ever since that great Black Eyed Peas song got more popular, some thing bugged me. That gilr in the group looks a lot like Stacey from Kids Inc. Today I put my worries to ease, the former Kids Inc. and Wild Orchids girl IS Fergie in the Black Eyed Peas. This may seem wildly obvious, but I needed confirmation!!

Well now that this is straightened out I can sleep better tonight.

good morning!

So this has been my first morning in a long time that I have had time to process and think and read. I have been happily working everyday and nearly every afternoon for a while now, and it is GOOD to have a break. I've had my oatmeal and tea, had time to read all my favorite sites, and write a bit. Yay!

Substitute teaching has been interesting so far. I've been working at only a few schools so I'm starting to recognize faces. Last week I even had kids that I barely remember give me waist high hugs in the playground. That is a great feeling! I'm glad to get back to my college classes though. I fell like that all the stuff I learned last semester I was able to put ot great use during my one month of subbing. And best of all, this is my last semester before I student teach, which is one step closer to having my own class! Oooh I'm getting restless!

Well Happy Monday!

Cookies!

If you haven't already - support your local Girl Scouts! Down in my neck of the woods it is Cookie time. This is such an important way for the girls to earn their money to do great things thoughout the year. So buy a box...or three! Need a source? Email me!

sock dogs!

Ok, ok so I'm pretty sure that these instructions for Sock Dogs have been around the block a few times. I believe these and these are Martha's instructions. Damn these are so cute!!! I need to make one, and I think my Girl Scout Troop needs to make them too!!

reason #412

why teaching in the first grade is always interesting: poo.

Yes, poo. I was subbing in a first grade class this week, when after lunch I noticed a "smell." I just thought someone farted. No big deal. Then one of the kids gets me and points to the floor and says "eeeeeew." Low and behold there is a turd on the floor. A small, well packed, dried turd. This was, of course, better than the alternative: the dreaded fresh turd. "Get 'em while they're hot" doesn't apply to turds. I had one of the kids grab a paper towel and get rid of the offending feces. I wanted to be sure that there were no more roaming turds in the room, so I told the 20 6 year olds that if anyone was hiding or storing any more of that, that they need to get rid of it!

I don't want to have the poo talk again, but what IS that smell?

At this moment, what is your favorite...

1. ...song? Probably that infectious "Hey ya." Can not get enough of that one.

2. ...food? Hmm. Tough one. Something yummy and spicy, like Indian food. But I typically do not have a "favorite food."

3. ...tv show? ALIAS.

4. ...scent? I love the smell of napalm in the morning? No, I don't think so... I do love the smell of good food cooking, or my husband, or rain. Yeah, I really love the smell of rain. I also kinda like the smell of gasoline, but that falls into a different category I think.

5. ...quote? I'm not typically one of those quote people, mainly beacuse I can never remember them properly. But from the great movie LA Story, I will always love: "Little lady, let your mind go and your body will follow."

last dance

So today is my last day at my current job. I am so thankful to be done here and moving on to greener (or at least more satisifying) pastures. I will miss the extended computer time this job has given me. If it weren't for that I would never have found blogger!

I feel odd, like I need a strange bit of closure. I'm not leaving much behind here, so I guess it is the impending feeling of a new start that I am having. So here goes: Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah!!! I"m all done here!!!

dig dug? really?

I thought my husband's love of the game DigDug was rather singular. It appears that he is not alone. Who knew? I think this means that I must learn to love and conquer the DigDug!

muffins!

Like I need an excuse to want muffins, Michele's Apfelkuchen Muffins sound wonderful and must be made pronto!

Happy New Year

Well, five days into the new year and I finally decide to wax poetic on the changing of the calendar. I'm excited for this new year. Last year held many exciting changes for me, and I am happy to be able to move forward on what I feel are new feet. My only resolution would be to live more deeply. I think that would cover many avenues for me and won't be something I give up on in 12 hours.

Cheers! Here's to a year of health and happiness!
